Explosive atmospheres need to be protected from ignition sources. Selecting equipment and protective systems which meet the requirements of the ATEX Product Regulations or similar regulations is essential. FLIR A310 ex is an ATEX compliant solution, with a thermal imaging camera mounted in an enclosure, making it possible to monitor critical and other valuable assets also in explosive atmospheres. Class A Ovens
Gruenberg ovens can be designed as Class A ovens to conform to OSHA, NFPA 86A, Factory Mutual (FM) and Factory Insurance Association (FIA) requirements. Class A ovens are equipped with a high exhaust rate: because the heating elements are an ignition source so a high exhaust rate is needed to dilute the volatile vapors below the “lower explosive limits.” As a result, the heating elements’ kW must be sufficiently increased to compensate for the heat loss caused by the above-normal exhaust rate. In addition, for a Class A oven to be energy efficient, the additional kW required must be carefully calculated according to solvent load and operating temperature requirements.

Pyroshock Testing
The purpose of Pyroshock (pyrotechnic shock) testing is to simulate the high-frequency, high-magnitude shock pulse experienced by an explosive event (such as an impact on a military tank or an explosive deployment charge). Pyroshock testing can expose failures in electronic components that are sensitive to high-frequency pyroshock energy. Common failures include: relay and crystal oscillator chatter, detachment of larger components from the circuit board, hard failures of small circuit components, and the dislodging of contaminants, which cause short circuits. Severe damage to crucial components used in space or in the military can produce critical results, such as loss of life, due to malfunction.
