eBIRST
The eBIRST toolset consists of three different tools that support 200-pin LFH, 78-pin and 50-pin connectors and a set of adaptors that allow connection to other connector types. A supplied application program controls the eBIRST tools via a USB2 port that also provides the tool power and controls the switching system using a Test Definition File to define the test sequence. These tools work by measuring the path resistance at the switching system external connectors using four-wire measurements, quickly establishing whether the path is good, has increased resistance or has failed. The dielectric withstanding voltage test (also called high-potential, over-potential voltage-breakdown, or dielectric-strength test) consists of the application of a voltage significantly higher than rated voltage for a specific time, between mutually insulated portions of a component part or between insulated portions and ground. This is used to prove that the component part can operate safely at its rated voltage and withstand momentary over-potentials due to switching, surges, and other similar phenomena.

CyclicVoltammetry and Galvanostatic Charging are tests used throughout the industrial and scientific communities to study chemical reactions and behavior of electronic structures. They are extremely helpful in the monitoring of nano based dielectrics, used in super /ultra capacitors or self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). The Cyclic Voltammetry test applies a ramping voltage to a device and measures the resulting current. In acapacitor-like structure the current reveals loss in the dielectric as well as degradation over time. CyclicVoltammetry is used to characterize the performance of supercapacitors and ultracapacitors formed using various nano-technologies. It is also useful in the studies of self-assembled monolayers used for sensors.

High Voltage Surge Testers

The most important features of the surge tester are its ability to test the entire winding insulation system. A high voltage surge generates turn to turn, coil to coil, and phase to phase voltage stress, as well as ground insulation stress. When used as a dielectric test, accurate voltage readings are essential. The HV Surge Tester monitors the voltage directly across the winding under test. This voltage is displayed on an oscilloscope and recorded on the Pass/ Fail LED latch monitor. This voltage will be accurate despite the impedance of the winding being tested. The insulation system can be tested way above the operating voltage because of the brief duration of the applied voltage test pulse. This allows faults to be detected long before they become apparent at operating conditions.
